The Franklin-Cotterell Greens Arboretum exists on the 22 acre site of North Bend Central High School at 14th and Walnut Streets, North Bend. The plantings were done in 1990 and 1991 and encircle and incorporate he school's activities complex. A newly poured, 100% wheelchair accessible concrete trail approximately one half mile long meanders through the sites berms and 130 woody species. This trail can be accessed from the high school parking lot. An outdoor classroom area just east of the school features a pond and waterfall, native grass and wildflower displays. Another handicap accessible trail approximately 400 feet in length can be reached from the parking lot of nearby Birchwood Manor in the southeast corner of the site. Annual specimen planting and labeling continue to add to the diversity of the site.
