Site InformationThe Stella Arboretum, consissting of a pond, a greenhouse and an area of native prairie plants, trees and grasses, was constructed in 2000 through an Environmental Trust Grant given to the Southeast Nebraska Consolidated School. Trees, plants and grasses native to this part of the Great Plains were selected, since temperatures can vary by 130 degrees in a calendar year, drought is common and blizzards, hail storms and 4-inch rains are not infrequent. The Arboretum's trees, shrubs and plantings include native caterpillar food plants and native butterfly nectar plants. The North American Butterfly Association has named the Stella Arboretum a Certified Butterfly Garden.
Affiliated as an "Accredited Arboretum" site in 2014
